Guide to managing your profile and account settings

Profile Management

The Profile Management section allows you to update your personal information, change your password, manage account settings, and customize your profile in the Lumus LMS platform.

Overview

Profile Management enables you to:

  • Update personal information
  • Change your password
  • Update contact details
  • Manage account preferences
  • View account information
  • Update profile photo (if allowed)

Accessing Your Profile

Opening Profile Settings

  1. Log in to the student dashboard
  2. Click on your name or profile icon (usually in top right)
  3. Select "Profile" or "Account Settings"
  4. View your profile page

Profile Overview

The profile page displays:

  • Personal Information: Name, student ID, etc.
  • Contact Information: Email, phone (if applicable)
  • Account Details: Username, account status
  • Profile Photo: Your current photo (if available)
  • Edit Options: Buttons to update information

Updating Personal Information

Editing Basic Information

  1. Click "Edit Profile" or "Edit Information"
  2. Update fields you want to change:
    • Name: Your full name (may require admin approval)
    • Address: Your address (if applicable)
    • Phone Number: Contact number
    • Other Details: Any additional information
  3. Click "Save Changes"

Information Updates

Some information changes may require administrator approval. Contact your administrator if changes don't appear immediately.

Changing Your Password

Accessing Password Change

  1. Go to Profile Settings
  2. Navigate to "Security" or "Password" section
  3. Click "Change Password"

Changing Password Steps

  1. Enter your Current Password
  2. Enter your New Password
  3. Confirm New Password (re-enter)
  4. Click "Update Password" or "Save"

Password Requirements

Ensure your new password meets requirements:

  • Minimum length (usually 8+ characters)
  • Mix of letters and numbers
  • Special characters (if required)
  • Not your previous password

Password Security

Use a strong, unique password. Don't share your password with anyone. Change it regularly for security.

Updating Contact Information

Editing Contact Details

  1. Go to "Contact Information" section
  2. Update:
    • Email Address: Your email (may require verification)
    • Phone Number: Contact number
    • Emergency Contact: If applicable
  3. Save changes

Email Verification

If you change your email:

  1. New email address will be saved
  2. Verification email may be sent
  3. Click verification link in email
  4. Email will be confirmed

Managing Profile Photo

Updating Profile Photo (if allowed)

  1. Go to "Profile Photo" section
  2. Click "Change Photo" or "Upload Photo"
  3. Select image from your computer
  4. Crop or adjust if needed
  5. Click "Save" or "Update Photo"

Photo Requirements

Profile photos should be:

  • Clear and recent
  • Appropriate for educational setting
  • Proper file format (JPG, PNG)
  • Within size limits

Account Preferences

Notification Settings

Manage how you receive notifications:

  1. Go to "Preferences" or "Notifications"
  2. Configure:
    • Email Notifications: Receive emails for grades, assignments
    • In-App Notifications: Notifications within the platform
    • Assignment Reminders: Reminders for due dates
  3. Save preferences

Display Preferences

Customize your view:

  • Language: Select preferred language (if available)
  • Theme: Light or dark mode (if available)
  • Date Format: Preferred date display format

Viewing Account Information

Account Details

View your account information:

  • Student ID: Your unique identifier
  • Username: Your login username
  • Account Status: Active, Inactive, etc.
  • Registration Date: When account was created
  • Last Login: When you last logged in

Security Settings

Security Overview

Review security settings:

  • Password Last Changed: When you last updated password
  • Active Sessions: Devices where you're logged in
  • Security Questions: If set up

Two-Factor Authentication (if available)

  1. Navigate to "Security" section
  2. Enable two-factor authentication if available
  3. Follow setup instructions
  4. Enhance account security

Best Practices

Troubleshooting

Issue: Cannot change password

  • Solution: Verify current password is correct. Ensure new password meets requirements. Check if account is locked.

Issue: Profile changes not saving

  • Solution: Ensure all required fields are filled. Check internet connection. Some changes may require admin approval.

Issue: Cannot upload profile photo

  • Solution: Check file format and size. Ensure photo meets requirements. Try a different browser if issues persist.

Issue: Email verification not received

  • Solution: Check spam folder. Verify email address is correct. Request new verification email if needed.
