Guide to grading student submissions and providing feedback
Grading Assignments
The Grading Assignments section allows you to review student submissions, assign grades, provide feedback, and track grading progress for all your assignments.

Overview
Grading Assignments enables you to:
- View all student submissions
- Review submitted work
- Assign grades and points
- Provide written feedback
- Track grading progress
- Download student submissions
- View grading statistics
Accessing Submissions
Viewing Assignment Submissions
- Log in to the teacher dashboard
- Navigate to "Grading Assignments" or "My Assignments"
- Select an assignment from the list
- Click "View Submissions" or "Grade"

Submission List View
The submissions page displays:
- Student Names: All students who submitted
- Submission Status: Submitted, Graded, Pending
- Submission Date: When the work was submitted
- File Attachments: Submitted files (if applicable)
- Quick Actions: Grade, View, Download buttons

Grading a Submission
Step 1: Open Student Submission
- Click on a student's name or "Grade" button
- View the submission details page

Step 2: Review Submitted Work
Review the student's work:
- Text Submission: Read the submitted text
- File Submission: Download and review attached files
- Submission Date: Check when it was submitted
- Assignment Details: Review original assignment requirements

Step 3: Download Files (if applicable)
- If files were submitted, click "Download"
- Review files on your computer
- Return to the grading page when done

Step 4: Assign Grade
- Enter the Grade or Points earned
- The system shows total possible points
- Enter score (e.g., 85 out of 100)
- The percentage will be calculated automatically

Step 5: Provide Feedback
- Scroll to the "Feedback" section
- Write detailed feedback for the student:
- What they did well
- Areas for improvement
- Specific comments on their work
- Suggestions for future assignments

Constructive Feedback
Provide specific, constructive feedback that helps students understand their performance and how to improve.
Step 6: Save Grade
- Review the grade and feedback
- Click "Save Grade" or "Submit Grade"
- The grade will be saved and visible to the student
- Student will be notified of the grade

Grading Features
Rubric-Based Grading (if available)
- If a rubric is set up, use it for consistent grading
- Select scores for each rubric criterion
- Total score calculates automatically
- Add comments for each criterion

Quick Grading
For assignments with many submissions:
- Use "Quick Grade" mode
- View submissions in a streamlined interface
- Enter grades quickly
- Add brief feedback
- Save and move to next submission

Bulk Actions
- Select multiple submissions using checkboxes
- Use bulk actions:
- Assign same grade to multiple students (use carefully)
- Download all submissions
- Mark as reviewed

Tracking Grading Progress
Grading Status Overview
View your grading progress:
- Total Submissions: Number of students who submitted
- Graded: Number of submissions you've graded
- Pending: Number awaiting grading
- Completion Percentage: How much grading is done

Filtering Submissions
Filter submissions by:
- Status: Graded, Ungraded, All
- Student: Search for specific student
- Date: Submissions on specific dates

Editing Grades
Modifying a Grade
- Find the graded submission
- Click "Edit Grade"
- Modify the grade or feedback
- Save changes
- Student will see the updated grade

Grade Changes
Students are notified when grades are updated. Ensure accuracy before saving grade changes.
Grading Statistics
View Assignment Statistics
- Open an assignment
- Navigate to "Statistics" or "Analytics"
- View:
- Average grade
- Grade distribution
- Submission rate
- Common feedback themes

Best Practices
Troubleshooting
Issue: Cannot view student submission
- Solution: Ensure the student has submitted work. Check file format compatibility if viewing files.
Issue: Grade not saving
- Solution: Verify all required fields are filled. Check internet connection and try again.
Issue: Cannot download submission files
- Solution: Check file format and size. Ensure your browser allows downloads.
Issue: Student not seeing grade
- Solution: Verify the grade was saved successfully. Check that the assignment is set to show grades to students.
